We are eclectic homeschoolers for sure. If you go to the main page you can see what we use: 5th Grade curriculum
For our kinder you can find some great printable links. Included in that we use Sylvan, and Kumon learning books from Barnes and Noble. We also use Explode the Code. Kindergarten Math Printables

We used Sonlight for second grade until half way through the year. Then we transferred her into a school. Looks like we're going back into homeschool though.

I haven't been creative! For math I like A Beka or Houghton Mifflin (standard public school bk). For History and Science, I like Bob Jones because they're straight-forward and you can add in movies, projects, reading material, etc.

We've used Sonlight this year and really like it! And math-u-see. Planning to do it again next year!

We are using Heart of Dakota Little Hearts For His Glory for Kinder this year with Math-U-See Primer. It has the hands-on activities he loves yet is open and go for me :). I bought the next level to use for first grade next year.

We are going back to Sonlight this year for history, some language arts and science. Teaching texbooks for math for Mikayla and Maddie, and Modern Curriculum Press (MCP) for Taylor! Explode the code for Madison and Taylor, and everything else is still up in the air!!!

We did Tapestry of Grace (LOVED IT). It's History, geography, church history, writing, spelling/vocab... really good stuff. Teaching Textbooks all the way for Math! A Reason for Spelling is very good also for extra spelling & they also have other subjects. (A Reason for Handwriting & I think Science).

We did the accredited streaming A-Beka videos for first grade last year. It did not work well with us. My daughter was isolated and watching a computer screen for long extended periods of time. It was very frustrating. To top it off, she had to do these papers that just added to her stress level...which of course added to mine! It seemed necessary to do this program last year because of the family dynamics but we have decided not to pursue that program this year. The part my daughter did not like the most was the books she had to read. She would read them but be bored. I would take her to the library and she would freeze and lose confidence in her reading because she felt comfortable with only their books. It took us the whole summer to get her to stop stressing out over reading a Dr. Suess book, which she now reads daily!

This year is our second year homeschooling and we are doing the Sonlight Core B, Science Core A, and Horizon Math 2. I'll let you know at the end of the year how it goes!

Heart of Dakota is very Christ-Centered and literature based. She uses a Charlotte Mason style which is short lessons, copywork for language arts, hands-on activities, literature based science instead of textbook. Actually, it does use Apologia science for a couple programs. She is in the midst of writing 8th grade right now (she has preK thru 7th) and will write high school guides too. I just LOVE it. And the reviews are amazing.

I just recently found this website and thought it had some wonderful insight and information available to parents who are homeschooling. I am adding the link here so that you can go on and read the recommended curriculum for subject and ages.

"This is my first year homeschooling so I have no way of telling you how this is going to work but this year we are doing the A Beka Academy. I wanted some extra penmanship work so I got the Writing with Ease Workbook 1. I also wanted some coloring pages and bible lessons for my kids so I ordered Christian Light Bible Curriculum. I am going to post a website that you might find interesting.

"Sonlight was great for our first year b/c each day was spelled out for me with most of the assignments. There was a ton of reading, which I loved, especially if you have a good reader that part is fabulous - I got bogged down with so much reading though. They incorporate a lot of the reading material into the subjects & I just found it too much.

This year I'm using Tapestry of Grace for our History, (which also includes, geography, spelling, vocabulary, church history & writing assignments) which we'll continue to use for many years. It is an amazing curriculum that is fabulous. For the rest of the subjects it's a smatteiring of good stuff. Singapore Math (3rd grade), Teaching Textbooks(7th & 5th grade) A Zoology year for Science with Fulbright, Rod & Staff for Grammar Grammar."

"A couple good friends of ours highly recommended Sunlight. I looked through the curriculum at my friend's house (this is their 8th year of homeschooling) & I just really liked the layout of it. Each week the lessons are all laid out for you which I loved. That takes a TON of work off my shoulders. There's a lot of flexibility with it. I can add or change various stuff but keep the core material. There'a a good deal of reading which our kids love -not excessive though. There's advanced reader stuff you can do/add with your kids that love to read & need more. Again, as a parent we can see the strengths & weaknesses of our kids so can taylor the subjects for their individual needs. We have been using A-Beka math but my husband isn't sure he wants to do that next year. We're undecided. I don't not like A-Beka stuff, I just liked Sunlight better. I really like the Science part of Sunlight. It's fun, very hands on & a fun videos of a guy who is a "Scientist". =) We all enjoyed those videos & experiments with him. We had experiments growing corn, beans, & radishes even! I like how the curriculum really explains things well for me the teacher. If I don't understand something 100%, the lessons are all written out for me & the child to understand.I can go through it with the child, knowing I'm not messing anything up."

  2. We use Time4Learning as our core curriculum and have for over seven years now. I love that lessons are planned for me and records are kept of time, scores, completion, etc. My daughter loves it because she is mostly a visual learner and needs to see light and motion to keep her interest. She likes that she controls the rate of school, sometimes she will blaze through a couple of weeks of lessons in a single subject, and still be able to take math at a slower pace. Just this August they launched their high school curriculum and we are signed up for a couple of courses there. Of course, we have to supplement music and foreign language, but all in all we are extremely happy not only with the amount of material presented but the quality of it. Thanks for letting me comment!
